Ann Arbor Tech Brewery

Talisman is proud to be part of the Ann Arbor Tech Brewery. While we focus on  sustainability and LEDs, there is a lot of innovation going on. Check it out:

Amish Furniture

Some one asked me recently how I started out with lamp bases made by the Amish. These designs are timeless and look great in Arts and Crafts homes.  I thanks Nell at Amish Tables for getting me started.

Fine Furniture

I am taking a class in furniture making by Peter Beal, who is an amazing cabinet maker. It is impressive how much there is to know about woods, stains and joinery. This work gives me a chance to work with the very best.

We are always improving our products and processes to bring you the best LED lights that will make your home beautiful.

Kind regards,

Barbara

Metal Spinning

Artistry, heirloom quality and beautiful lighting are the core of every Talisman design. To further my understanding of wood working, I am taking a cabinet making class with Ann Arbor’s best furniture maker, Peter Beal. I just took possession of my first lathe and will soon be learning the art of Metal Spinning to enhance our high-tech Lights.

New York Gift Show

I attended the 2010 Summer New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) in New York City with my buyer, Rebecca. We spent most of my time in the “Handmade Designer Maker” floor visiting lamp makers, potters and sculptors from all over the US.

This is the place to go to meet the newest in home design from lamps to textiles to mobiles. We did not see anything with LEDs! This was quite a surprise. Happily, there was a lot of interest in the Talisman™ Light Engine. The question on everyone’s mind is when can we try it out?

It is great to get feedback from people in the trade who understand that the LED “replacement” bulbs are not going to work and that we need to take the system approach to lighting. Ahh – Nice to discover we are thinking the same way!

So now that we are recovered and back in Ann Arbor we are starting our first production build.
